Steps

Render bacon in a large Dutch oven until crispy, remove with slotted spoon2
Brown ground beef in the bacon fat, drain excess3
Cook onion and garlic in same pot until soft4
Add all spices and stir to coat5
Pour in fire-roasted tomatoes and a splash of broth if needed6
Simmer 45 minutes, taste and adjust7
